December – What’s your New Year’s Resolution?

Thanks to everyone who entered my contest in December, and good luck in fulfilling those resolutions. The most common ones center around health: get in shape, lose weight, get more exercise, stop smoking, worry less, relax and enjoy life, give myself special treats and time. I also saw a number that dealt with re-organizing one’s life, such as: read more, spend less time on the computer, work hard at my writing career or job or school, de-clutter, handle finances better. Lots dealt with personal improvement and relationships: spend more family time, be thankful, be the best person I can, be more open-minded and understanding, do something on my lifetime list, be more sexy and wear some sexy clothes, think before I speak, master my shyness, date the right kind of guy, find a companion, rescue a dog, master the stick shift (that’s a car, by the way!), and never make another resolution.  Congratulations to Mary King, who won an Edmonton firefighter calendar and a couple of sexy novels.

November Whats the romantic gift for you?

Women like jewelry. That was the top pick. Books (mostly sexy ones) and flowers tied for second along with something thats special and shows he was thinking of you. And then theres a romantic trip, dinner out, perfume, candy, candles, lingerie, the new James Bond (a girl can dream), and, failing Bond, a puppy. And then theres the woman we all envy, whose favorite gift is a sexy and romantic song her musician husband has written and recorded just for her. Sigh

Jean Mess wins an autographed copy of Champagne Rules and a Calgary firefighter calendar, which I picked up in person, from three hot firefighters, at the Taboo show.

October Whats the sexiest clothing (or lack thereof) for a good-looking guy?

The winner, by a huge majority, is jeans. Tight jeans, well-worn jeans, jeans with bare chest and bare feet, jeans with a tight muscle T-shirt, jeans with an open-neck shirt, a button-down shirt, workboots and hardhat, a leather jacket Well, you get the picture! There were also a number of votes for a fresh-out-of-the-shower towel. And then we had: a kilt, a suit, a uniform, sweats and a T, muscle shirts, open-neck shirt, crisp white dress shirt, boxers, shorts, speedos, tux, PJ bottoms. Isnt it interesting that we find our men more sexy in some flattering, tantalizing clothing than just plain naked?

Amelia Richard wins the Vancouver Firefighters Hall of Flames calendar and an autographed copy of Hot in Here.

September – what’s the sexiest occupation for a guy?

Well ladies, for once there’s a clear winner: firefighters! I’m thrilled, since my Hot in Here and Hot Down Under heroes are firefighters. Second place was a tie between construction workers/carpenters and guys in occupations like police and special forces. Next came cowboys, then a tie between lifeguards and strippers/dancers. There were also votes for lots of interesting jobs: sculptor, UPS driver, football player, lawyer, country singer, chef, writer, humane officer, book store owner and engineer. Special points to those who said, a man who’s in a job he loves. Kim from Stockton, CA wins the US prize – a 6-month subscription to the Aphrodisia book club. Adrienne Dyer wins the outside-the-US prize – a copy of Hot in Here and a copy of How to Walk in High Heels: The Girl’s Guide to Everything.

August – what’s your favourite fantasy, sexual or otherwise?

Well, you ladies have some interesting fantasies! It's probably no surprise that cowboys, Scotsmen, and the young Elvis Presley all were mentioned (not at one time <g>). Then there's sex on the beach, bondage, two men, or one absolutely wonderful man. How about being waited on hand and foot? Exploring a new world? Flying with a friend to a terrific city for a fabulous meal? Being alone with the hubby (no kids, no phone) - bet lots of you can relate to that one. And the most common fantasy? Winning the lottery! Congratulations to August's winner, Jackie Wisherd. She won an autographed copy of Champagne Rules and Geisha Secrets: A Pillow Book for Lovers.

July– How many books do you read in a month?

I got a pretty even breakdown, with almost identical numbers of people reading 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 and 16-20 books. Only half as many were in the over 20 category, and I was delighted to see that one person reads 25-35 books a month, and another reads 28-33. We writers love you women! Keep on reading, okay? The July contest winner was Martha Lawson. She won Champagne Rules, two pairs of dangly earrings and several cover flats and bookmarks from Aphrodisia authors.

June – What’s your favorite fashion accessory?

The overwhelming response was… Earrings! That would sure be no surprise to the Awesome Foursome, as all of them are BIG into earrings. Next came other kinds of jewelry, especially items with special significance. And then purses. Shoes were there, but not mentioned often. Guess we’re not all into Manolo Blahniks and Jimmy Choos like the women of Sex And The City! There was a variety of other great responses including a silk scarf, hair barrettes, a wig for those bad hair days and a big, wide sexy belt. June’s winner (of Champagne Rules and a cute embroidered bag) was Maureen Emmons.

May – What’s the best advice a girlfriend has given you?

There were some great answers. Some dealt with specific situations but most were general. Lots were on the theme of follow your heart, be true to yourself, march to the beat of your own drum, don’t try to be someone you’re not, do what’s best for you – and have confidence in yourself; I do. There was general, practical advice such as do the most important things first, don’t rush into anything, if someone won’t look you in the eyes there’s something wrong, put your husband’s needs first as your children will grow up and leave you. Don’t worry – change what you can, and if you can’t change things, then eat chocolate!

And of course a lot of the advice had to do with guys. Marry for love, not for money; Why want a guy who doesn’t want you?; If he cheats once, he’ll do it again; Don’t settle on the first one who comes along; Show that you’re interested but don’t go overboard; If there’s a problem in the beginning, it’s only going to get worse. And then there’s the one the Awesome Foursome would totally endorse: men come and go but a true friend is there to the end, so never let a man come between you.

Thanks for sharing these words of wisdom. May’s winner is Shirley Lalonde, and she receives Champagne Rules and Out of the Mouths of Babes – Quips and Quotes from Wildly Witty Women.

February – What gets you in the mood for love?

The most popular answer was massage. Women like a “just the two of us” situation, and a man who focuses on her, talks about his feelings, gives her thoughtful gifts and shows a proper appreciation for foreplay. (Bet you could have guessed that last one!) Winner Anita Yancey received Champagne Rules and Diana Krall’s The Look of Love CD.
